Application
Among the salts of EDTA, the disodium salt is the most important. It is a crucial chelating agent. It is used in electroless copper plating, gold plating, lead-tin alloy plating, electrochemical polishing of steel parts, and in solutions prior to silver plating of copper parts.
EDTA-Na can also be used as a substitute. It is also used in detergents, liquid soaps, shampoos, agricultural chemical sprays, bleaching and fixing solutions for color photographic material processing, water purifiers, pH regulators, and coagulants. In the chemical reduction initiation system used in styrene-butadiene rubber polymerization, disodium
EDTA is used as a component of the activator, primarily to chelate ferrous ions and control the polymerization reaction rate.
